has chaired the New and Restored Democracies' Movement since
October 2006...
- The International Conference on New and Restored
Democracies (ICNRD): This movement, started on the
initiative of a small number of countries, has now existed
for 17 years. Its first conference was held in Manila in
1988, and it has now convened five international
conferences, the most recent one in Mongolia in September
2003 which was attended by 119 States. This conference
produced the Ulaan Baatar Declaration and Plan of Action on
Democracy, Good Governance and Civil Society. Participation
in ICNRD meetings is open to all countries. A sixth
conference was held in Qatar in November 2006.For more
